Meet Julian Moreaux, Senior Operations Officer at International Finance Corporation – Year 1 Geneva EMBA

Each month, a Geneva EMBA student shares insights about their studies and professional life.

What do you think is your best quality as a professional?
As a leader, my best quality is empathy. Being able to understand others’ perspectives shapes my communication style and helps me achieve meaningful impact.

What do you consider your greatest professional achievement so far?
After 19 years at my organization, my greatest achievement doesn’t come down to one deliverable, rather it is the ongoing work in growing both my own and the organization’s strategic understanding of our business.

Which skill do you most hope to develop during your EMBA programme?
I hope to enhance my managerial skills to effectively lead a larger, more geographically dispersed team.

Which values guide you while taking responsibilities, and why?
I’m driven by tasks that offer opportunities for growth and insights into strategy, governance, and operational risk. I love learning and am happy to take on “mundane” work, not just flashy projects, as I know how this contributes to bigger goals.

What is the most valuable lesson you’ve learned in your career?
Celebrate the efforts of others, as even small tasks can take considerable effort. When conflicts arise, reflect on what you could have done better and use empathy to give others grace.

What motivates you to succeed, even in the face of challenges?
I like to see the value of my contributions in the grander scheme of things. For example, working with teams to design a complex project for private sector growth or when I see our projects contributing to gender equity or climate goals.

How do you envision your career evolving after completing the EMBA course?
In the short term, I hope the EMBA will help me take on more managerial roles within my organization. Long-term, I see it opening up new opportunities beyond my current role.

What trait do you most admire in colleagues and peers from your class?
I am really enjoying the collaborative spirit in our group! The diversity and continuous support from peers inspire me to contribute more, not just for myself but for the collective benefit of the group.
