If you’ve ever seen a Roomba, or any robot vacuum, gliding confidently across your living room only to get stuck under a chair moments later, you’ve already met one of the world’s best-known household robots. Humble as it may seem, it reminds us that robots entered our homes long before humanoids, factory arms, or AI-powered research machines captured our imagination. That sense of curiosity and familiarity echoed through the Alumni EMBA UNIGE Career Event on 13 November 2025 at Campus Biotech Geneva, where participants explored how much robotics has evolved, and where it is heading next.

The event’s theme, “Enhancing Human Intelligence with Robots: Robots Act Fast. Leaders Think Forward.”, highlighted that progress has always been the result of humans and machines advancing together. It was also a vivid demonstration that no robot can replace the energy of a thriving human community. The networking that unfolded after the presentations reinforced this spirit, setting the tone for authentic connection and shared curiosity.
At the centre of the evening were the contributions of our two speakers. Simón Contreras, Industry Principal at Snowflake and former leader at Amazon and AWS, and Mario di Castro, Head of Mechatronics, Robotics & Operations at CERN, offered vivid illustrations of how robotics are reshaping our world. Across industries, from retail to particle physics, the message was clear: technology evolves rapidly, but human stewardship remains essential. Robots act fast, yes, but their purpose and direction depend entirely on us.

Building on this foundation, participants were taken on a journey through the evolution of robotics and intelligent systems. From early mechanical inventions to today’s autonomous and adaptive technologies, our fascination with intelligent machines has spanned generations. The images shared throughout the evening, from AI pioneers and early experimental robots to factory automation and self-driving vehicles, made one thing unmistakably clear: we are living a transformation in which robots learn, anticipate, and support what humans need.

Change is certain, but our participation in shaping it is non-negotiable. Leaders who thrive will be those who understand technology, guide it responsibly, and build environments where intelligent machines amplify human leadership.
The evening concluded with a warm networking reception, where alumni exchanged ideas, reconnected with peers, and reflected on how they, as leaders, will navigate this new era. Some rediscovered classmates they had not seen in over twelve years; others formed new connections that sparked lively discussions. These moments are a testament to how vibrant and supportive the EMBA network truly is.
And the best part? It’s never too late to reconnect. Whether you graduated last year or a decade ago, these gatherings offer the chance to rediscover old friends, meet inspiring new colleagues, and stay at the forefront of ideas shaping tomorrow’s business landscape.
