On 2nd of October,  a group of Executive MBA students and alumni from the University of Geneva had the amazing opportunity to explore HUG and SFITS (Swiss Foundation for Innovation and Training in Surgery) , the cutting-edge training center for surgical excellence.

At SFITS, they saw a wide variety of real surgical equipment that doctors use to practice and perfect their skills before performing actual surgeries. From artificial blood systems to realistic bone models, the center is designed to simulate the most complex and demanding surgical situations, and is one of the few and the newest in Switzerland.

What stood out to them the most is how this high-tech training environment ensures surgical precision and excellence, helping to push Swiss medicine to new heights. The focus on real-life practice and continuous education is key to ensuring that healthcare professionals are ready to tackle the most challenging medical procedures.

Additionally, they learned more about how HUG functions as a business. It has a very special critical role in the healthcare ecosystem of Switzerland, providing top-tier patient care, groundbreaking research, and education. It was fascinating to see how HUG combines advanced medical practice with an unwavering commitment to innovation and sustainability in healthcare.

It was fascinating to learn from @karine Martinez about:

– HUG’s impressive scale: more than 1.4 million consultations annually, 30,000+ surgical procedures, and over 4,000 births each year (the largest obstetrics service in Switzerland)
– Their commitment to sustainability and innovation, with 58% of electric vehicles, 40% renewable energy use, and a 46% waste recycling rate (very impressive for a hospital with a lot of hazardous waste)
– HUG’s role as a WHO collaborating center, contributing to research and global health initiatives in areas such as epidemic prevention, mental health, and antibiotic resistance.
